Review: Humminbird SmartCast RF-35 Wrist Mount Fishfinder With RSS

It is amazing to think back on how technology has downsized over the past few decades. The first cell phones were huge with batteries you carried around in a travel bag. The first computer was enormous but now you can slip one into a backpack. Even fish finders have downsized to make them far more portable and easier to carry with you. As far as size goes you cannot go much smaller than the Humminbird SmartCast RF-35 Wrist Mount Fishfinder with RSS. This fish finder is small and portable but you have to know all of the details before making that purchase.

But smaller is not always better and though the Humminbird SmartCast RF-35 Wrist Mount Fishfinder with RSS has a very interesting premise behind it, it really does not measure up to the mark as well as larger fish finders that you can buy. The idea behind it is to wear it, cast out the sonar buoy and you can then see the layout of the water bed and the fish within range. The product description says that it has 90 degrees of sonar coverage and covers a 75 foot range with a 125 foot depth. That sounds very great, especially since you can read all of this information from a simple watch.

Unfortunately, the SmartCast RF-35 Wrist Mount Fishfinder falls to the bottom in user satisfaction. Every single user of this fish finder has had the same general complaint. It does not last and is not sturdy. One user even had trouble turning it off and could only do so by removing the battery. The solution by customer service was to remove the battery. That is not a big help considering each time the person did so, they would have to reprogram the watch. Others complained that the fish finder stopped working completely and that the six month warranty barely covered it. And if you are out of the six month warranty...forget about getting it replaced.

Yes, the Humminbird SmartCast RF-35 Wrist Mount Fishfinder with RSS would probably impress your friends on the "cool gadget" level. But the ensuing comments after it failed to work would quickly turn those impressions sour as it did for many of the people who purchased one. Though it is very inexpensive, you are better off finding a better fish finder than this one.

How Eagle Fish Finders Work
Eagle fish finders takes the guesswork out of fishing with a device that is so small that it fits in the palm of your hand. Even if you don't fish often, it's still a good tool to add to your gear, and lower end models are quite inexpensive. Some can be purchased for as low as $100.

Garmin Fishfinder 140: Just the Basics
With so many fish finders available these days it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact model that fits your needs best. All have basic functions and some are far more advanced than others. Many people base their decision on price, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Eagle Cuda 300 Fishfinder Has the Extras
One of the "extras" you get with the Eagle Cuda 300 is the ability to see the depth of the fish. That is important because when casting out your line and using weights you want to hit the right depth for the particular fish you are after. The terrain the Eagle Cuda 300 shows is pretty detailed considering it is a lower end model.
